Job Description

Executive Director

Founded in 2000 by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Toronto, Fontbonne Ministries is a Catholic social services organization whose mission is to foster community and wellbeing through welcoming and inclusive programs for the most socially isolated among us. Based in Toronto’s east end, Fontbonne supports people experiencing social isolation, poverty, food and housing insecurity, and other forms of vulnerability through supportive housing for older women, community drop-in and food access services, friendly visiting, practical supports, and creative programming.

Guided by the legacy of the Sisters of St. Joseph and sponsored by Catholic Health Sponsors of Ontario, Fontbonne is entering an important next chapter. The organization benefits from committed staff and volunteers, established programs, and a meaningful community presence. The next Executive Director will build on these strengths while helping Fontbonne broaden its partnerships, evolve its services, and strengthen its long-term sustainability.

The Position

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director will guide Fontbonne into its next chapter of growth and community impact. They will ensure Fontbonne’s mission remains the touchstone for strategy, decision-making, organizational culture, and the evolution of programs and partnerships. They will provide clear strategic leadership, ensure financial sustainability, and support a culture that reflects Fontbonne’s values of respect, advocacy, community, compassion, and accountability. As the organization prepares for its next strategic plan, the Executive Director will also oversee a dedicated senior team, deepen relationships with partner organizations, and serve as Fontbonne’s leading ambassador.

The incoming leader will build on the organization's strong foundation, working collaboratively with the Board and team to guide Fontbonne's next phase of growth and evolution. Key priorities will include strengthening organizational capacity, expanding partnerships, exploring new and complementary service offerings, and diversifying revenue to support long-term sustainability. The Executive Director will also deepen Fontbonne’s engagement across the community, building connections with funders, donors, government, service partners, and neighbourhood stakeholders.

This is an opportunity to lead an established, mission-driven organization and shape its next phase of community impact.

The Person

The ideal candidate is an experienced, values-driven leader with high emotional intelligence and a proven record of success in nonprofit leadership. They bring executive experience in community services, social services, or another mission-driven organization, ideally with exposure to vulnerable populations. They combine strategic perspective with operational discipline and are skilled at building engaged, inclusive, and accountable teams.

This individual is a confident and authentic communicator who can connect effectively with donors, community partners, staff, volunteers, and program participants. They are a strong relationship-builder who can strengthen existing connections, cultivate new partnerships, and balance growth ambitions with organizational capacity. Aboveall, they are motivated by Fontbonne’s mission and understand the importance of dignity, trust, and meaningful support for people facing social and economic challenges.
